Every wedding should be special and unique to the couple sharing their wedding vows. According to the philosophies of feng-shui there are also certain elements that when brought together can aid in making the couple’s Wedding Day a truly miraculous occasion. Here is our favorite dozen feng shui wedding tips.
1.PICKING A WEDDING DATE
If your wedding date includes the numbers 8, 9 or a combination of both, you will place your wedding on the most positive and lucky of all feng shui days. The number 9 represents eternity and 8 represents an auspicious love. August 8, 2008, was the most popular wedding date in recorded in history.
The number 18 contains both the numbers—8 and “1+ 8,” which equals 9. Because of this, the 18th of the month is an ideal day to get married. Alternatively, the 17th, 26th and 27th are also dates that work well within the philosophy of feng shui.
2. ALTERNATIVES TO WHITE
Light beige or cream colors attract good luck and therefore is an ideal color for a wedding dress. If your mind is set on white, try to implement a cream, rum pink or beige piece (perhaps a hem, waist trim or even a sash.)
3. ATTRACT HAPPINESS
The color of red is said to be the color of happiness. To attract happiness, wear a piece of jewelry hair piece or garter with red. A small red flower also will work nicely—only a splash of red is necessary to attract happiness.
4. ACCESSORIZE PROPERLY
If you're interested in wearing “something new," "something old," "something borrowed" or "something blue,” be sure anything that is given or lent to you is from someone who is or was happily married. This will protect the flow of chi, or energy life force, in and around you.
5. ARRANGING FURNITURE
Creating enough space to easily move between furniture and objects gives room for chi (energy life force) to circulate. Round tables or oval tables create harmony especially with guests who have tension or are not getting along. Avoid square or rectangular tables, or anything with sharp corners.
6. IN REMEBERANCE
For those who have passed on, or cannot make it your celebration, place a red flower on your table in remembrance of them.
7. REFLECTING LIGHT
Crystals, chandeliers, candle holders, toasting stems and lots of reflecting light are all thought to bring good luck.
8. IMPLEMENTING NATURE
Remember that embracing Mother Nature is very important. You can bring the element of air to your wedding easily with an outdoor wedding or reception. If that isn't possible, then be sure to pick an indoor site with windows to view the outdoors or with access to an outdoor patio. Venues overlooking mountains, a forest or nature preserve, golf course, pond, or lake will all give a relaxed feeling to the ceremony and reception.
9. CREATIVE POSITIVE MEMORIES
Record your favorite wedding songs played that night by your band (or burn a CD if you have a DJ) and create a sense of pure harmony as you recreate the feel of your Wedding Day every time you listen.
10. DECORATE IN PAIRS
Anything paired in combination can bring you love—two vases with flowers, toasting flutes and such. (This is also good to remember for your home!)
11. A CAKE WITH MEANING
Three is the feng shui number of love, so a three-tiered wedding cake would be perfect. If you are celebrating your reception outside, you should have a tall cake to celebrate marital growth. If your wedding is inside, and the ceilings aren't particularly high, the cake should be shorter. Square cakes stand for a quiet romantic start to a marriage, while round or rectangular cakes provide energy and excitement.
12. GUEST COMFORT
If you have a troubled, mad or critical guest, place them near a water feature or an ice sculpture. If that's not possible, then place a square of black construction paper under his or her seat, as the black square represents water.
